News from PCCA
The entire PCCA community is praying for our friends and fellow members affected by the devastating tornado that tore through Pella, Iowa, on Thursday July 19, directly hitting the manufacturing facilities of PCCA-member Vermeer Manufacturing. Several other PCCA members were onsite for a customer-appreciation event.
Vermeer's Jerry Beyer told PCCA that "the visiting customers and the Vermeer team are all OK."
Vermeer CEO Jason Andringa told a local television station that the company had drills in place for such an event and was glad that they were fully prepared. He said the company will certainly rebuild and "come back stronger than ever."
PCCA will provide more information, including where to send relief donations, as soon as it becomes available.
During the 2018 PCCA Convention, the PCCA Education & Research Foundation announced the recipients of its 2018-2019 scholarships: Oscar Zapien Maynez of Norman, Okla., Garrett Vincent of Paoli, Ind., and Emma Syverson of Menomonee Falls, Wis. PCCA received 43 applications representing 15 member companies this year, and the winners were selected by a committee of PCCA past presidents.
PCCA emailed its 2018 PCCA Contractor Survey on February 9 and emailed a reminder on February 20. Fifty-six contractor members responded. Following are the survey results.

Nearly half (46.4 percent) of respondents replied "neutral" for their expected workload in 7 years, though an almost equal number (48.2 percent) expect gains of more than 5 percent.

Dear Members and Friends of PCCA:
As you know and have heard over the past couple of weeks, Hurricane Maria has wreaked havoc and devastating destruction over the entire island of Puerto Rico. Also, many of you know that longtime PCCA member, past president, and Hall of Famer Steve Spears and his wife, Flory, have their business and live on this beautiful island.
Supplies and financial assistance are needed now, but as is the case in all these many catastrophic situations, it is difficult to know the most efficient and effective means to achieve the most bang for your buck. We have been in contact with Steve Spears over the past couple of weeks, and in his words:
Update from PCCA Past President Steve Spears, November 19, 2017
All, Two months after Maria, we are struggling mightily to get the island up and running. At this writing, about 90 percent have water. Some 40-50 percent of the populace have on-again and off-again power-company-supplied electricity. About 75 percent of cell phones have limited service access, and 50 percent plus probably have limited internet access. There is still vegetative and property damage debris everywhere. It's not that nobody is picking it up; it is that the quantity is so astronomical. We still have fallen trees and leaning poles, hanging cables of all varieties, collapsed buildings, homes, roofs everywhere. Perhaps 10 percent of still-standing traffic signals and streetlights are working.
