Congratulations to State Technical College of Missouri!

August 27, 2018

In August, two separate studies named State Technical College of Missouri as the third-best two-year trade school in the nation, and when classes began on August 21, student enrollment at the school was the highest ever. PCCA worked with State Tech and PCCA-member Sellenriek Construction to help develop the school's Utility Systems Technician program. The program's first class started this semester.

“All of the State Tech faculty and staff who have been working towards opening day would agree we are definitely starting the year on a high note!" said State Tech President Dr. Shawn Strong, who spoke at the PCCA Convention in March. "Within the course of a week we were named 3rd nationally on two different college-ranking lists and for the second year in a row set a record for freshman enrollment and now an overall enrollment record.”

In “The Top 25 Two-year Trade Schools: Colleges That Can Solve the Skills Gap,” Forbes magazine used the following categories to rank the schools: post-graduation success (37.5 percent), affordability (25 percent), completion or graduation success (20 percent), and student experience (17.5 percent).

The Forbes article stressed the value that technical schools bring to the country: "Four-year schools are good fits for many students, but the notion that they’re the best one for all students is downright wrong. As high-tech machines continue to disrupt how things are made, and as workforces age in many technical fields, there are vital jobs opening up that academics just can’t fill. Highly-skilled and well-trained workers are needed, and the country is home to top-notch technical schools ready to fill that need."

In its study, WalletHub compared more than 700 community colleges across 17 key indicators of cost and quality. State Tech ranked 1st on the indicator of Student Outcomes and 2nd in Career Outcomes across the entire country.

“Our outstanding relationships with the companies that hire our students will continue to make State Tech the Employer’s Choice," Strong said. "Those same relationships result in an exceptional placement rate and help students to make the decision to choose State Tech."
