2022 Convention Program &Auction Catalog 9 Registration Open 8 am - 6 pm East Foyer A Desk PCCA Leadership Development Program with Andy Patron: Financial Management 8 am - 4 pm Fairmont Gold Meeting Room A Most leaders have come up through operations and have a good handle on project financials. During this session, we will review basic project financials and emphasize the importance of productivity versus production. Then we shift the focus to company-level financials. Many emerging business leaders have never really been shown how project results turn into profit for the company. So, in this session, we’ll discuss company financial reports and define terms like cashflow, retained earnings, debt, and EBITDA. You will learn the difference between income statements and balance sheets, and we’ll present an overview of some ownership succession options. Exercises will help reinforce why tracking cash conversion is important, deciding when and if to borrow, and why it is critical to keep your working capital at adequate levels so that it will drive company financial performance. $500 per person includes all educational materials, professional instructor, and breakfast and lunch on Friday. 77th ANNUAL CONVENTION Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, Scottsdale, Arizona March 4-9, 2022
2022 Convention Program &Auction Catalog 20 All proceeds from Sunday night’s Auction go directly to building programs and services for PCCA members. All our education programs, government relations and workforce development efforts, and damage prevention initiatives are sustained by your generous donations to the Auction and the bids we receive on Sunday. So please, bid early and often! Emergency 811 Study PCCA was the driving force behind a new, comprehensive study of the nation’s 811 system, which found that failures in the system are costing the U.S. some $61 billion a year in waste and excess costs and creating unnecessary hazards for public safety. PCCA built the coalition, engaged Continuum Capital to conduct the research and a high-powered PR firm to promote it, and is a major financial supporter. The study was released in November and has received considerable attention, but much work remains as we begin the process of getting states to consider and adopt the study’s recommendations. Important Education Activities The Auction has been bankrolling PCCA’s education programs for years, first the Young Construction Professionals and now the Leadership Development Program (LDP), the PCCA Scholarship Program, educational speakers at our meetings, and the Who Will Do the Work? program, which develops and implements utility construction curriculums at technical schools and community colleges. • PCCA awards four $10,000 scholarships each year to the children and other dependents of PCCA members’ employees as well as the newly created $1,000 “Who Will Do the Work?” Scholarship for students at PCCA-affiliated schools. Recipients of PCCA’s 2021-2022 scholarships were Moses Chapman, Lakewood, Wash.; Laith Emad Jhoda Almhimedawy, Aurora, Ill.; Mason Tribble, Carrollton, Ga.; Zachary Wells, Avon, Ohio; and Bruce Halfmann, Covina, Calif. • PCCA continued working with five institutions of higher education that have been developing utility construction programs as part of PCCA’s “Who Will Do the Work?” program: State Technical College of Missouri, Terra State Community College (Ohio), Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College, Monroe County Community College (Mich.), and Somerset Community College (Ky.). We recently held our first meeting with all the schools together, where they shared successes, challenges, and other important information via Zoom. Our goal is to hold the next meeting in-person at one of the schools. • PCCA’s workforce development efforts received a major boost last year with a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor, Apprenticeship: Closing the Skills Gap. This year, PCCA’s Education Committee has been working with WIA to get employers to participate the program and to begin enrolling apprentices and mentors in the program. • Held a successful Leadership Development session on Executive Communication at the 2021 Convention, with 22 members participating. • Paid for keynote speakers, education session presenters, and Construction Industry Roundtable participants at the PCCA Convention and Mid-Year Meeting. • Developed the PCCA/CGA/NULCA Excavation Safety Summit. Advocacy that Impacts Your Bottom Line In recent years, PCCA has greatly expanded its government relations efforts, aiming to ensure that our voice is heard on issues important to our members and to establish PCCA as a resource for lawmakers and regulators in advance of government actions. In short, we want to expand the power and communication construction markets and oppose any legislation or regulation that stifles innovation and productivity in our industry. 2021 posed several challenges for the PCCA government affairs team after the 2020 elections put Democrats in control of the White House and both houses of Congress, and the continuing Covid-19 pandemic limited our ability to meet face-to-face in Washington, D.C. But the PCCA team continued to work with allies, meet with legislators and regulators, and score some important victories for the industry. • PCCA successfully supported the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which provides significant funding for broadband and power construction. • PCCA successfully opposed the so-called “Build Back Better” legislation, which had little to do with building and would have set America back by picking favorites when it comes to the workforce needed to rebuild our power and broadband infrastructure. The legislation also included tax increases that would have disincentivized investment and reduced capital, wages, and employment in the construction market. However, this fight is far from over, and PCCA will remain vigilant. • PCCA successfully fought back against the President’s Covid-19 vaccine mandate, which did nothing to improve workplace safety, but would have led to unnecessary job cuts and/or resignations at a time when expansion of several infrastructure markets is within reach and construction workers are needed most. • As always, PCCA battled for increased funding for power and communications infrastructure, especially now when keeping America connected is more important than ever before. PCCA stressed that strong oversight should accompany federal funding to ensure that resources are spent in the most effective way. PCCA believes speed requirements of 100/100 Mpbs should be included in the eligibility criteria to access any federal support dollars used for broadband deployment. PCCA Auction Proceeds at Work

PUSH, Inc. - Green Bay Packers Ticket Package When you look up “football” in the dictionary, there ought to be a picture of Lambeau Field, home of the fabled Green Bay Packers. Full of history and fun, it’s one of those bucket-list Continued on page 22 The GrundomaT piercing tool is one of the most versatile tools in any contractor’s toolbox. In addition to extremely accurate horizontal bores, the tool also performs ramming, bursting, pipe extraction functions and more. Pipe Ramming Converting the GrundomaT for pipe ramming is a simple operation. a tapered pipe-driving adapter is placed on the front of the tool. The GrundomaT’s percussive power easily rams steel pipe and casings under sidewalks, roadways and other structures. With models ranging in size from 1 3/4 inches to 7 inches in diameter, the GrundomaT can be used for ramming a wide range of pipe diameters. Pipe Extraction The GrundomaT can be used to drive steel pipe out of the ground, a process called pipe pushing or pipe extraction. during pipe extraction, a pipe-pushing adapter is placed on the front of the piercing tool. The tool’s percussive force is then used to literally drive out an existing service line. often the new pipe is pulled into place behind the tool, but also functions as the air supply for the GrundomaT through the use of an air nipple. Pipe Bursting Various adapters and expanders are available for the GrundomaT to allow it to be configured for bursting applications. Size for size replacement and nominal size upsize replacements can be easily accomplished with the GrundomaT configured for pipe bursting. Dead End & Vertical Boring The GrundomaT is ideal for vertical or dead end boring. With the GrundomaT’s patented reverse mechanism, the tool can be reversed out of a bore simply by adjusting a level on the lubricator control mechanism. Keyhole minimal excavation service line installations called keyholes help municipalities and utilities save time, manpower and money. The superior accuracy of the GrundomaT piercing tool makes these installations possible. The tool is launched from a small launch pit at the house or business receiving the new installation. an even smaller pit is used at the main. When the Grundom T arrives on target at the main, the new pipe is attached to the front of the tool. The GrundomaT is then reversed out, pulling the new pipe in place.
